garbage delayed due to 4th of July holiday reminder

Please be advised/reminded that as listed on the June/July Village bi-monthly calendar and due to the Independence Day holiday all Village of Walden garbage services will be a day off from the normal pick up schedule.  Residential Garbage will be picked up on Wednesday July 5th, Recycling on Thursday July 6th, and Yard Waste on Friday July 7th.  Our normal schedule will resume the week of July 10th.  We apologize for any inconveniences this may cause you.  We wish everyone a safe and happy Independence Day!

July 3rd & 4th office hours

The Finance Department will be open from 8am-12pm (noon) on Monday, July 3, 2017 and will be closed on Tuesday, July 4, 2017 in observance of Independence Day!  We hope everyone has a safe and healthy holiday!

6.30.17 office hours extended for tax payments

Since Village tax payments are due without penalty by June 30th, for the convenience of resident's and to better assist you, the Finance office will be open 7:30am-4:30pm on Friday, June 30, 2017 rather than our regular Friday hours of 8am-12pm.

Police Training at Walden Elementary today

Good afternoon. This is Tara Bliss, Village Clerk of the Village of Walden. Today is Monday June 26, 2017. It is approximately 3pm. I am calling to inform residents that today, beginning at approximately 4pm the Village of Walden Police Department in coordination with surrounding area Police Departments and the Orange County Sherrif’s Department as well as fire and EMS Services will be conducting an Active Shooter Drill at Walden Elementary School.  This training will last into the evening hours.  During this time frame the areas of Walnut Street, Pine Street, Orchard Street, and Municipal Square will have an increase of activity and will be partially closed to traffic.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause but do hope residents can understand and appreciate the importance of this extremely valuable and potentially lifesaving training.  Thank you.

Walden Beach open 6/17/17-8/27/17 12-6pm daily

The Walden Beach at James W. Olley Community Park (97 Sherman Avenue) is proudly open for the summer season!  Opening Day is Saturday, June 17, 2017 and is open daily from 12pm (noon) to 6pm (weather permitting).  The beach will be open until Sunday, August 27, 2017.   The 2017 Beach fees are listed below for your convenience: Resident Daily Pass (under 18) $2.00 Non-Resident Daily Pass (under 18) $3.00 Resident Daily pass (over 18) $2.50 Non-Resident Daily Pass (over 18) $4.00 Individual Resident Season Pass $35.00 Individual Non-Resident Season Pass $50.00 Family Resident Pass $50.00 Family Non-Resident Pass $75.00 Swimming Lessons per session $20.00 Paddleboats - 1/2 hour per person $1.00 Non-Profit Youth Group Rate $1.00  (over 25 people)

Historic Marker Dedication 5.12.17

Summer Youth Employment Program Requirements: YOUTH MUST: Reside within the Village of Walden limits (call the Village Clerk if unsure of residency) Be Between the Ages of 14-18 Have working papers Be available to work between 7/10/17-8/4/17 Attend Job Fair June 22, 2017 at 6pm Attend Skills building workshops: Thursday, July 13, 2017, 5:30-7pm - Team Building and Finance 101 including budgeting; & Thursday, July 20, 2017, 5:30-7pm- Resume Workshop Attend Graduation Ceremony on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at 7pm - 3rd Floor Assembly Room in the Municipal Building. Summer Youth Leadership Academy Applications!

Applications are being taken for our Summer Youth Leadership Academy for 8th and 9th graders!  If you have a youth interested please contact the Recreation & Parks Department at 845-778-2177 ext 1524.  Great program that teaches leadership skills and pays your child $5 per day that they attend! The Summer Youth Leadership Academy is a development program open to Village of Walden Youth entering the 8th or 9th grade.  The program runs from July 10, 2017 through August 4, 2017 Monday Through Friday 9am-3pm at Wooster Memorial Grove Park (except for special circumstances such as extended field trips for which an individual permission slip will be provided).  Participants will learn: The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens Community and service learning projects Organizational and teamwork training, including team leadership training  Training in decision making, including goal-setting and determining priorities Citizenship Positive Social Behaviors Interested youth should fill out the attached application with their parents and return the completed application to Village Hall (1 Municipal Square) for consideration.  For questions about the program, please contact the Recreation & Parks Department at 845-778-2177 ext 1524.
