GOVERNOR CUOMO ANNOUNCES WALDEN AS PRIORITY PROJECT

Just under an hour ago the Governor released his list of priority projects awarded by the Regional Economic Development Council's. The Mid Hudson Region was awarded 67 million and the WALDEN COMMUNITY COUNCIL in collaboration with the Village was awarded $337,000 to rehabilitate and revitalize 23 commercial and 8 residential mixed-use buildings, and streetscapes in the eastern half of the Village of Walden's commercial business district!!! Congrats to the Village and the Community Council for working together and the lobbying efforts made on this projects behalf. Our amphitheater project also got one of the highest grades from our regional council and the NY State Parks Department will be announcing their awards in the near future. CodeRed Implemented in Walden

CodeRED has been implemented by the Town of Montgomery & its three Villages. In the event of an environmental or man made disaster, an emergency notification system is now in place town wide. This program will also be used to alert residents to weather related cancellations and delays as well. Please listen closely should you receive a call from this automated service on our behalf. Look for the CodeRED logo on our website, click on a logo to register additional phone numbers (work, cell) you would like used in the event of an emergency. This is very similar to the program used by school districts and is highly effective and efficient. Please read the attached PRESS RELEASE and FAQs

Additional Leaf Pick Up 12/9

There will be a FINAL LEAF PICK UP on December 9th. If residents still have leaves to dispose of after this date, they should contact the Orange County Transfer Station, Taylor Recycling or a private clean-up firm at their own cost.

Orange County Transportation Council (OCTC) Long Range Transportation Plan update

Please take note that a public comment period is now open for the Orange County Transportation Council (OCTC) Long Range Transportation Plan update. The draft plan update document is posted on the long range plan page at the OCTC website: www.orangecountygov.com/planning/octc. The draft document is intended for review in order that feedback can be incorporated prior to the OCTC Executive Committee meeting on December 8, 2011 at 2PM at 33 Airport Center Drive, Stewart International Airport, New Windsor at which the LRTP update will be on the agenda for consideration of adoption. Comments will be accepted until December 5th. To facilitate review, three regional public information meetings are being held: Southeast – Weds, Nov. 9, 2011, Woodbury Village Hall (Fire House), 455 Rte. 32 Mid & Western – Tues, Nov. 15, 2011, Wallkill Town Hall, 99 Tower Dr. Northeast – Thurs, Nov. 17, 2011, Walden Village Hall, One Municipal Square All meetings begin at 7:00 PM. OCTC Technical Committee members including NYS Dept of Transportation, NYS Thruway Authority, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Metro North Railroad and Orange County Planning will make presentations and be available to respond to questions and suggestions for the plan update. 2012 Leadership Day Awards

The Leadership Day Awards Committee is again collecting nominations for this year's Awards. The categories are as follows. Volunteer of the Year – This will be given to an individual who shows outstanding volunteerism while displaying character traits that would make all of us as Village of Walden residents proud. This individual must either work or live in the Village limits and have a profound impact on our community and serve as an example for others to follow. Ronald I. Jacobowitz Youth of the Year Scholarship – This award will be given to a graduating high school student who displays outstanding leadership, volunteerism, above average work ethic, and has shown to have a profound impact in their school and/or community. This individual must live within the Village limits. Sam Phelps Service Award – This award will be given to an individual, group (not specifically an organized group… ex: father and son) for living a life dedicated to public service. This service award is named after the late Sam Phelps for his spirit, philanthropy, volunteerism, and the great pleasure he took from giving back to his local community. Village of Walden Tree Removal

Those who live in the Village of Walden, please have all branches and other tree debris moved to the front of your yard today. The Village of Walden DPW and Parks Department are working diligently to assure storm debris is removed this week. After today, if Village employees have gone down your street, they will not be returning. Remaining debris must be placed curbside in accordance with garbage removal regulations. Any questions, please contact Village Offices at 845-778-2177. Thank you for your patience as we deal with the storm’s aftermath.
